Hope you had a great weekend! As usual, the awesome weather made it possible for me to continue the backyard patio project. This weekend, it was putting together the patio furniture we bought (on sale!). No problem there, had everything assembled within an hour (my wife "supervises", I put it together...lol). We had an older (but still in great condition) patio umbrella, but no base and no pole. Went out and got the base, but apparently an umbrella pole is the hardest thing on the planet to find unless you want to order online and wait. Well, as my wife can tell you, I can be a little impatient sometimes, so after a little thought, I bought some half-inch pipe and got to work. After cutting it to length (with the help of my neighbor Richard) and drilling holes for the umbrella nipple and the screw support, I was good to go. And how's this for an upside: only took me 30 minutes, and did it for around half the cost of buying one! Mission accomplished. Next, got to work on the bottom retaining wall for our terraced plot next to the new flagstone patio (pic attached). It turned out great and hopefully I'll be finished with the second tier next weekend or the weekend after that. It was hard to not take advantage of the great weather to keep this project in motion, even though I snuck into the house a few times for some icewater and a peek at the Olympics (GO USA!).
