Hope you had a great weekend! As is common around my house for the last few months, I continued work on our backyard project. Finally layed in all the flagstone, I can see why professionals charge what they do, it's not an easy job! LOL But no sooner did I lay in the last flagstone, it was time to start phase two of the backyard rejuvination. I've attached a "before" pic of the next project at hand. As you can see by the tools, there's no powertools in use, just good ol' elbow grease. This will eventually be a terraced area that will be a nice transition from the sunroom above to the flagstone patio below (and those ultra-ugly steps to the right of the pic will be getting a makeover, too). The goal is to finish this before the cold rainy weather gets here (if it ever does! LOL). Since I only really do any work on this on weekends, it takes a little longer but it is definately worth it. Unlike the flagstone patio, we've had to budget out a plan for the simple landscape stone that we'll use. If you've been reading these blog posts, you know that we're doing this entire project as a "cash and carry" thing, meaning no credit cards, no loans. We wait until we can afford it and then do it. We considered having someone do this project last year but decided to do it ourselves. It's not like the housing market is going crazy, and we have no plans to sell in the near future anyway, so if we can take the time to do it right and do it ourselves (and save some money in the meantime), why not? Nice to not be in an hurry, and the goals we set are attainable which cuts down on the frustration factor...lol. If you've ever done a DIY project you'll understand what I'm talking about. In the end it's going to be a great place for family and friends.
